Who can calm the storm?

Mark 4:38-40  (ESV)

But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Who can calm the storm?

Have you ever wished for the superpower of being able to control nature? Imagine being able to tell the wind where to go or being able to control the waves of the sea. Did you know there actually was someone who had the power to do this?

One day Jesus got into a boat with His disciples. He fell asleep while they rowed across the Sea of Galilee. A great storm came over the sea and the disciples were afraid their boat was going to sink. They went and woke Jesus. Jesus stood up and said to the wind and the waves, “Peace, be still!” And the wind and the waves stopped!

Jesus asked the disciples, “Where is your faith?” They had seen all His miracles, yet they still didn’t trust that He was able to keep them safe in the middle of a storm.

Maybe you are going through a storm in your life right now. Maybe the rain is pouring down on you and everything seems against you, like waves trying to sink your boat. Will you trust in Jesus, the One who is able to calm the storm?

Who can raise the dead?

Have you ever wondered what happens after people die? Maybe you are afraid of death because you don’t know. It seems terrible to think that once a person has died, we will never see them again. Or is it possible that the dead can come back to life?

Many prophets performed all kinds of miracles, but Jesus showed His great power by raising people from the dead. There are a few occasions in The Book that tell us how Jesus called dead people back to life.

In the gospel of John, there was a man named Lazarus who was a friend of Jesus. He became sick and died. By the time Jesus got there, he had been dead for four days. Jesus told them to take the stone away from Lazarus’ tomb. The people didn’t want to because they were afraid of the smell – after all Lazarus had been in there for four days! But Jesus promised them that if they believed they would see the glory of God.

When they rolled the stone away from the tomb, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” And, sure enough, Lazarus came out!

Jesus promised that if you believe in Him, you don’t have to fear death. He promised to raise all his followers to life on the last day when he will return to judge the world. Then we will live with Him forever. Would you like that?

Who can raise the dead?

John 11:25-26 (ESV)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

Who made me?

Have you ever wondered who made you? Or maybe you have looked at a large mountain and wondered who put it there? And what about all the thousands of different kinds of animals? Where did they come from?

And if someone made all these things, why did he make them? Why did he make me?

Will God forgive me?

Have you ever needed forgiveness? Perhaps from a friend or relative. But have you ever needed forgiveness from God? Now that is scary. Will God forgive us?

In The Book, God tells us He is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He longs for each of us to come to Him so that He can forgive us. Don’t get me wrong – God is holy and He doesn’t leave sin unpunished, but He is calling everyone to turn to Him and receive His forgiveness.

We all need God’s forgiveness. Not one human being is good enough to please God. We can clearly see that no matter how hard we try on our own, we can’t stop making mistakes and doing wrong things. Whenever we try to do good things, we are trying to get close to God. But that will never work. We need to come to God and admit to Him that we aren’t good enough. When we admit our mistakes, we can receive His forgiveness and have a close relationship with Him.

When God forgives, He forgives totally. He doesn’t hold grudges; He washes our mistakes away and never looks at them again. God paid a high price for our forgiveness. Jesus had to die to wash away our sins. God loved the world so much that He was willing to pay this high price to give us the gift of forgiveness. Will you receive His forgiveness?
